This week’s quote: “My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue, An everlasting vision of the ever changing view, A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold, A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold…” Carole King
So yesterday was my birthday; a tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold. I spent my day being well wished by so many it made me feel lucky to be where I am. My life has been a tapestry but at too many times my life has been a travesty and a tragedy. I am so lucky to be loved by a beautiful wife, my children, my family and my friends. What makes it so special to me is that I am loved in spite of the imperfect person I am.
Last night we saw Beautiful, the Carole King play. For me Carole King spoke to my generation about love, heartbreak, confusion and life. It was a great play and I spent much of the play reminiscing about my misguided youth. I remember playing her albums over and over, and still get misty when some songs come on the radio. It was a great way to spend my birthday night, and if you get a chance it was well worth while seeing.
I have often said that age’s greatest benefit is the ability to see what is important over what is transient. And what’s important are family, friends and community. I have been blessed that God saw fit to make this humble servant complete by providing me with a family and friends. So my birthday wish is this. I wish to do more, to be better, to help those less fortunate, to be a friend to those in need and to be thankful for all that I have. For what I have completes me.
May God bless each and every one of us. Thank you for making one insignificant man’s birthday so special. Have a great week.
